Faye’s Geisha Girl Tattoo
This week on Tattoo Tuesday is Faye’s geisha girl tattoo by Kate Shaw in Newscastle. Faye is from The North East of England and got her geisha girl tattoo 4 years ago. What I love most about Faye is at first glance, you may not realize that she carries some really beautiful work! Another case of looks can be deceiving!
Faye has always been fascinated by Japanese culture from an early age.
“I’ve always loved the idea and history of Geisha girls. The way they carry themselves and their beauty and intrigue. I knew I wanted to get my own geisha girl but the search was intense and overwhelming”
Faye spent almost two years searching for the right kind of design for her geisha girl tattoo, Faye eventually found the work of Audrey Kawasaki. Kawasaki specializes in beautiful portraits with influences from Art Nuveau and Japanese manga drawings and is from Los Angeles. Knowing she liked the style, Faye now had the task of finding the right artist.
After searching through a variety of tattooists, Faye decided on Kate Shaw of Tattoo Station in Newcastle. Faye had first met tattoo artist Kate when she designed some tattoos for Faye before and with Kate’s incredible ability at black and grey portraiture, I can definitely see by Faye went with her.
With what Faye describes as a ‘monumental fuck-up’ where she got the first sitting day wrong, Kate and Faye eventually got started. Three long sessions later and the piece was finished and Faye couldn’t be happier
“It is exactly what I had been imagining all these years but better. I’m so in love with her”
It is clear this is a huge nod to Audrey Kawasaki’s work but with the added rich colour of Kate’s distinctive style. Faye was then over the moon when the original artist herself, Audrey Kawasaki ‘liked’ the original Instagram post!
Thanks Faye for your geisha girl tattoo submission. Makes me want to get my sleeve underway again and get it finished!
