James & Chloe’s Surprise Wedding Proposal in London
Every once in a while, I get an enquiry through for a top secret mission that makes me feel like some bad-ass secret spy…but I swap my camera for Bond’s latest deadly gadget. I get asked to photography wedding proposals around London and I eagerly accept the challenge. Nothing fills me with more excitement than watching and photographing the beginning of the huge adventure of wedding planning and marriage than with proposal photography! What’s even better is a surprise wedding proposal in London
When groom-to-be James first emailed, he was planning a super special day for his then girlfriend Chloe and wondered if I wanted to come along for the adventure. James and Chloe first met over 6 years ago in Montana, USA while the pair were both playing for football teams. Fast forward to December 2015, and James and I had the plan all set.
The location: The River Thames over looking The Houses of Parliament
My mission: Capture Chloe’s reaction to James down on my eye knee
My hiding place: A big tree!
The signal: Beige trench coats and ‘the nod’
James knew he wanted to do it with a mighty impressive backdrop and he picked the perfect day, with the Winter Sun shining bright. Despite the cold weather I got myself in position and waited.
Sure enough, more or less on the dot, a confident James and a seemingly unaware Chloe wandered on the riverfront and stopped to take a selfie (My kinda gal, Chloe!)
Then, with a nod to me, James got down on one knee and began to ask Chloe the all important question; would she become his wife. It took Chloe a few beats to realize what was happening! With a nod yes, James was back up and slipping the ring onto her awaiting finger!
It’s an amazing thing to watch one person ask the other whether they’ll be their partner in life, and in crime. More so when you are secretly watching from behind a tree! My cover was almost blown at one point when a jogger wished the pair congratulations and Chloe turned towards me. I had to duck behind a wall. I asked if Chloe had seen me,
“I did spot you just to my left but James did a great job of convincing me it must have been a random person-can’t believe I fell for it!”
After a few minutes, I made my escape having captured Chloe’s fantastic reaction and with a few kisses, I was off into the crowds of London’s Southbank leaving the couple to their own celebration hugs and kisses.
The pair get hitched this year and I wish them the best of luck!
